Wheelchair Accessibility Review: Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, Incline Village (Room 102)

Location: Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino, Incline Village, NV (near the lake’s North Shore)

Overview

The Hyatt Regency sits on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, a good base for exploring the lake’s quieter side. We stayed in Room 102, located on what the hotel calls the first floor — but don’t let the “first floor” label confuse you. The hotel’s floor numbering starts at what would normally be the basement, so the true main/lobby floor is actually floor two, with floor three above that, plus a separate tower building. Room 102, despite being on floor “one,” is not subterranean — it’s a normal ground-level room.

The Room

Room 102 is a good size, with enough open floor space to navigate comfortably. Bed height: 24”. Toilet height: 19”.

As with many hotel rooms, the bathroom door itself made the entry a bit tighter than the rest of the room — not enough to be a dealbreaker, just something to budget extra maneuvering room for.

A few practical notes:• Bed: Comfortable and easy to transfer to, but the bed frame has a solid base. If you use a Hoyer lift, the lift’s base will not fit underneath — plan accordingly. • Lighting: Lamps throughout gave the room nice, warm light, though they required manually reaching over to switch off rather than a centralized control. • Furniture layout: The room was not overcrowded, which made it easy to move through.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was easily accessible overall, with a few details worth noting:• Sink: No ledge on the sink itself, but there were lower shelf/counter spaces nearby for setting down toiletries — a helpful workaround. • Shower: Roll-in style, large enough for a scooter, with both a handheld and a fixed showerhead. • Toiletries placement: The hotel-provided soap, shampoo, and conditioner were mounted fairly high — likely out of reach for a wheelchair user, so consider bringing your own in a bag you can hang at a lower height.

Arrival and Check-In

Entry into the hotel was smooth, with automatic doors at the entrance. The check-in desk, while still taller than scooter height, was lower than the towering counters found at many hotels — low enough for an easy face-to-face conversation with the front desk staff.

The Pool Area

The resort has a large pool, plus a lower pool, with a total of four water features: one large main pool, an adults-only hot tub, a family hot tub, and a separate spa hot tub. Access starts indoors before opening up to the outdoor pool deck.

There are two pool lifts — one at the main pool and one at the lower pool — and from what we observed, both appeared able to reach the various pools and hot tubs in their respective areas. We did not personally use the pool, but spoke with pool staff and got a look at the lifts, which appeared to be SRS Smith lifts, a reputable, sturdy brand.

A few notes for planning your visit:• The lift setup is outdoors only — there is no lift available for the indoor portion of the pool area. • The pool area is well-staffed, with a café on site, and staff appeared ready and willing to assist. • Based on our conversation with staff, plan to arrive about 30 minutes before you want to be in the water, to allow time for lift setup and assistance.

Dining On-Site

The property has three dining options: a coffee shop, a casual tavern-style restaurant, and a nicer sit-down restaurant. All three were easily wheelchair accessible.

Getting There

The Hyatt Regency is roughly an hour to an hour and 15 minutes from Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO). Overall, Room 102 worked well for our needs, and the resort’s pool setup and dining options rounded out a comfortable stay. Nothing here would prevent a return visit.
